Teacher Advisory Board Member

Angela Calvin

Angela Calvin is a dedicated math teacher at Paris High School in Paris, Texas, with an impressive 18 years of teaching experience, 8 of which have been spent at her current placement. She currently teaches Dual Credit Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, and Statistics, showcasing her versatility and expertise in the field of mathematics. Angela holds an undergraduate degree in applied mathematics, a master's degree in special education, and a second master's degree in curriculum and instruction with a focus on math, evidencing her comprehensive educational background. Additionally, she is a National Board Certified Teacher in AYA Mathematics, a testament to her commitment to excellence in teaching.

Beyond her responsibilities at the high school, Angela is actively involved in her community and the broader educational landscape. She manages a bus route before and after school, teaches a night class at Paris Junior College, and serves as a mentor to AP Calculus teachers as well as National Board candidates. During the summer months, Angela's commitment to education continues as she teaches summer school, participates in AP reading for Calculus, and works as an evaluator for the National Board.

Angela's teaching philosophy centers on the belief that every student can learn with the right teacher, and every student deserves a teacher who is an expert in their field. This belief drove her to become a National Board Certified Teacher, a process through which she deeply reflected on her teaching practice and worked to become the educator she aspired to be. This dedication has translated into tangible benefits for her students, many of whom have passed the AP exam and college entrance exams under her guidance.

Motivated by a desire to make her voice and opinions heard in an education system she sees as flawed by non-educator management, Angela has joined the Teacher Advisory Board. She advocates for a balanced approach to education that values learning with and without technology, respects the lessons of the past to shape the future, and emphasizes the need for veteran teachers to mentor the next generation. Angela also calls for more educators in political positions to enact effective changes and to protect public school education, ensuring access to quality education for all students.

In a similar spirit of dedication to education, Julia Behringer is a second-grade teacher at the Downtown Denver Expeditionary School (DDES), where she has made a significant impact as one of the founding teachers since the school's inception in 2013.
