Hyatt Keller

Hyatt Keller has spent the last 10 years working for Montgomery County Public Schools in Maryland. She has taught third grade, Head Start, and Kindergarten. She is currently a Consulting Teacher in which she provides support to novice teachers all over the county. Her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education was completed at High Point University and she holds a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a concentration in Differentiated Instruction from American College of Education.

Hyatt’s teaching philosophy focuses on the three Rs-relationships, relevance, and rigor. For students to feel invested in their learning, the learning must be relevant to them. Students need to understand the connection between the learning and their lives and oftentimes will need an educator to help bridge those meaningful connections. All students deserve rigorous instruction and should be held to high expectations. The third and arguably most important R is the concept of relationships. Students need to feel and understand that they are valued and important.

This dedication to students and their instruction led Hyatt to co-creating math curriculum resources for all of the early childhood educators in the county as they transitioned into virtual learning. Hyatt joined the Teacher Advisory Board (TAB) for the first time last year as she shares Teaching Lab’s core value of working to ensure equitable access to great instruction for all students.

With a commitment to educating and supporting the whole child, Hyatt continues to influence the educational community through supporting the teachers she works with by coaching for equitable classroom practices that meet the needs of all learners.
