Julia Behringer currently serves as a second-grade teacher at the Downtown Denver Expeditionary School (DDES), where she holds the distinction of being one of the founding teachers since its establishment in 2013.

Her journey in education spans various grade levels including kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. Julia earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Northern Colorado Center for Urban Education and began her teaching career as a sixth-grade educator before embarking on her tenure at DDES. Notably, she provided support to fellow educators during the challenges posed by the pandemic. Her contributions extend beyond the classroom as she has been an integral part of the School Leadership Team at DDES, guiding school-wide initiatives and spearheading programs like The Green Team and Teaching Assistant Professional Learning. Recognized for her dedication and excellence in teaching, Julia was honored with the Teaching Excellence award by the University of Northern Colorado in 2014.

Her commitment to inclusive education led her to obtain an endorsement in Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education the same year, followed by completing the Colorado READ Act Teacher Training in 2022. Julia's teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in creating a classroom environment centered on student ownership and fostering meaningful relationships. She believes in empowering students as leaders of their own learning journey.

Julia's passion for education extends beyond her classroom as evidenced by her involvement in the Teacher Advisory Board (TAB), where she advocates for literacy-focused classrooms aligned with Teaching Lab's mission of Educational Equity, Racial Justice and Liberation. Driven by her belief in the importance of creating inclusive and accepting spaces for all students, Julia finds teaching to be a profoundly rewarding experience.

Her teaching methodologies are continuously evolving to meet the diverse needs of her students, reflecting her unwavering commitment to their growth and success.
