Kevin Melnik

Kevin Melnik currently works with Great Minds Education as an Account Solutions Manager, leveraging over 8 years of experience in teaching mathematics across diverse socio-economic settings. His teaching journey has taken him to Justice High School (formerly JEB Stuart) in Fairfax County, Virginia; Westminster High School in Westminster, Colorado; and Markham College in Lima, Peru.

At these institutions, Kevin taught and tutored students in a range of math subjects including Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, IGCSE Math, and SAT Math. Notably, at Justice High School, he held the leadership role of Algebra 1 Collaborative Team Leader for 4 years, during which he spearheaded academic improvement efforts that resulted in a ~40% growth of passing scores for Algebra 1 Virginia Standards of Learning Exams (SOLs). Armed with a Master’s Degree in Secondary Mathematics Education from Hofstra University and a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland, College Park, Kevin is a firm believer in student-centered, inquiry-based learning. He is trilingual (English, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese) and excels in fostering environments where students can access their highest potential.

Kevin's dedication to education extends beyond the classroom as he has been instrumental in supporting struggling math students and English Language Learners, leading academic improvement efforts, and spearheading county-wide professional learning initiatives focused on collaborative team building, curriculum implementation, and data-driven instruction. Recognized for his contributions to education, Kevin has received accolades for his role in enhancing student achievement and professional development.

Kevin's commitment to advocating for student-centered learning and the importance of emotional and social support in education led him to join the Teacher Advisory Board (TAB). His vision for education encompasses fostering dynamic learning environments where every student can thrive academically and personally, empowered to think critically and solve problems.
