Tahirah manages implementation of the partner portfolio projects, as well as lead high-quality, curriculum-aligned professional learning experiences for teachers and schools implementing ELA curriculum using Teaching Lab’s model for professional learning.

Tahirah brings 15 years of experience in the educational field toTeaching Lab. She received her M.S. in Special Education and Urban Education from Mercy College of Dobbs Ferry, New York. In addition, she graduated with an M.A. in School Building Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.

Her passion for learning and strong sense of community involvement developed during her elementary years as a student. During this time both of her Jamaican born, immigrant parents were transitioning into the education field and became teachers as well. The combination of the community where she was raised, the resources provided by her educational setting, and seeing her parents put themselves through school was an inspiration. These primary factors led her to pursue a career in education.

She began her educational career as a Special Education paraprofessional, and upon joining the New York City Teaching Fellows Program, she began her teaching career in the South Bronx in 2007. With a career span of over ten years teaching students with disabilities, she began her professorship, teaching novice teachers at Hunter College Graduate Program in New York City, while working as a Training Manager for NYC Men Teach. In 2021, she joined Teaching Lab, as a  Partnership Manager (ELA). 

Tahirah was born and raised in Bronx but now resides in Fishkill, NY with her husband and three children.
